Long Weekend Trip

The wife and I are planning a long weekend trip to Williamsburg without the kids. We will fly in Friday (arrive 12:30pm) and leave Monday (leave 2:35pm) either the last weekend in September or the 2nd last weekend. We will be flying into Richmond ($150/each) on Continental. We usually fly SW but Norfolk is over $250/each. We will be renting a car.

I can get discounted rooms at Courtyard Marriott via my sister. It is also possible to get other Marriott properties, but a little more difficult. There is a Courtyard Williamsburg that I am looking at.

1) Will this be a good location?

2) Should I have my sister look elsewhere? Maybe even outside of Williamsburg?

The trip will centered around Colonial Williamsburg but we are open to other suggestions. So please forward them.

Thanks in advance for any replies

The Courtyard is located a little south of Colonial Williamsburg, near Busch Gardens. Since CW is your primary destination, see if your sister can arrange lodging at the Marriott Fairfield Inn on Richmond Road (assume she is using Marriott Friends & Family). It's a newer property and is located just a mile from downtown Williamsburg and CW.

Having said that, the Courtyard is still only a few miles from CW, and is an easy drive straight up Rt. 60. The easiest way for you to get to CW from the Courtyard would be to take Rt. 60 to Francis Street, turn left, park in CW Tavern parking, and use the CW bus transportation system (the Tavern stop is across the street from parking) to get around the restored area and Merchants Square.

Enjoy your visit.

I agree that with a car, any Williamsburg area lodging is OK. But maybe park at the Visitor Center and then use the CW bus to get around.
