How kid-friendly is Yorktown?

We'll be spending some time in the Tidewater area in early June with our two 8 year olds, lodging in Williamsburg. We know we want to do Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, but not so sure about Yorktown. I grew up in the area and from what I remember Yorktown was basically just a big battlefield. Interesting for its historical significance to be sure, but not a lot to keep a couple of 8 year olds entertained. Am I remembering correctly? Have things changed?

The kids may be entertained at the Yorktown Victory Center just across from the battlefield. Check out some of the reviews on TA to see if it will work for your family.

The kids will probably have limited interest at the battlefield, but they can run around the site. If the adults want to view the entire site, a self driving tour is available and is fairly informative. The Jamestown Natl. Park fee covers Yorktown Battlefield as well for the week. All in all, a couple hours at Yorktown should suffice. BTW the drive to Yorktown via the Colonial Pkwy is beautiful.

The Yorktown riverfront is worth a visit on a nice day.

If you want to visit Jamestown Settlement (highly recommended for the children), a bundled ticket may interest you. You should also investigate the bounce pass, perhaps.

Enjoy your trip.
