Update - currently the Park Service is not allowing access to Historic Jamestown.

"Unfortunately, security officers of the National Park Service are not allowing guests of Preservation Virginia to access our private property on Jamestown Island this morning. We will update this page as negotiations continue, but for now we are not open for touring."

Further information can be found on the Historic Jamestowne facebook page.

Egads!

When the last shutdown occurred in 1995, we were able to walk all over the place.

No programs, no entrance to the visitor's center, no bathrooms, but you could go there and see *something*.

This STINKS!

I hope it opens by next week as myself, DH and two teenagers are leaving Saturday for Williamsburg and plan on visitng Historic Jamestown as we have already paid for the Historic Triangle passes. I will be very disappointed if it's still closed as well as Washington DC as we plan on spending 2 days there as well.

If you have prepaid for the historic triangle passes, be sure to stop by the Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Center before activating the pass. The staff there will work with you to try to make things right in the wake of the federal shutdown.

Another update - Preservation Virginia has announced that their portion of Jamestown Island will open Saturday, Oct. 12.

"Preservation Virginia’s Historic Jamestowne to Reopen

October 11, 2013

Preservation Virginia announced today it will reopen its portion of Historic Jamestowne on Saturday 12 October to visitors. This afternoon the National Park Service Washington Office released the following statement:

“Visitors will able to access Preservation Virginia on Jamestown Island via VA Highway 31 beginning this Saturday, October 12.”

Guests will be able to tour the archaeological site, visit the Nathalie P. and Alan M. Voorhees Archaearium and the newly stabilized 17th century Church Tower. Archaeological tours will be offered throughout the day."

I hope they are able to open as planned.
