Trip Notes Day 1

Just some brief notes from the first day of our trip in beautiful Williamsburg,VA. Staying at the Governor's Inn, a great value at only $70 a night. It is a CW property, so you get a few perks such as discounted tickets to programs and some evening programs are even free. The rooms are basic, with flat screen TV, refrigerator, comfy bed, hot shower, pool and free continental breakfast. Today we went to Busch Gardens, the following is our usual plan of attack. If you are coming for a week buy at least one annual pass, you get free parking and discounts on food and merchandise. We try to go on Sundays, today we walked straight on to almost every ride and if we didn't it was never more than a 5 min wait. Also, go early, we get to the park at least 45 min before "opening". We grab a map and hang out in England until other countries open. Our game plan is to ride the rides early and go to shows I the afternoon. We rode all 5 coasters, Curse of Darkastle, saw London Rocks once and Celtic Fire twice. Buy the meal plan, it's worth it and most of the platters can be shared. The food is really good. Our favorites our the Smokehouse platter and fried pickles in New France and Annie Grogans stew in a bread bowl in Ireland. We took a nice drive on the Colonial Parkway in the evening, the stopped by the Lumber House in the Historic Area to make evening program reservations for the week. One last tip CW runs a BOGO an annual passes every Black Friday. Until tomorrow...

Seriously? It's the Friday after Thanksgiving, when the Christmas shopping season begins in earnest.

Burgnut, thanks for sharing your experiences. Looking forward to your next installment!

Thanks for your trip report! We are heading down to Williamsburg in a few weeks and I was trying to avoid doing Busch Gardens on a Saturday or Sunday because I figured the weekends would be crazy busy. What time did you leave the park on Sunday? Were lines starting to get bad when you left? From what you are saying, if the lines aren't bad, we just might do it on Sunday.

We left around 5pm. Line were longer than the morning but still not bad. Longest wait all day was maybe 10 min.

Thanks for all the info. Do you have the schedule of when each "country" opens? Would like to make a tentative plan of attack for our visit.

Thanks!
