where to stay?

I am going to Orcas Island the end of may through 1st week of june. I will have a vehicle. My boys are 15 and 12. I am torn between staying at Smugglers (mainly for pool) or renting a cabin at west beach resort. We are planning on whale watching. My boys also would like to fish. Or is there another place/or island someone would recommend. Mainly want to relax and be near water to see lots of wildlife.

1. Re: where to stay?

Both would be good choices with kids. West Beach is more basic, I'd say but they've got the fishing right there.

I don't know that it'll be warm enough for the pool in late May/early June though.

Given your last two sentences, and the ages of your boys, I'd prefer San Juan Island.

I agree with Voyager. There is a park on San Juan Island where it is possible to see whales from the beach (although there are never any guarantees). I'm not a specialist on places to stay there, however.
