Port Townsend to Anacortes?

Hi! We are going to SJI from Anacortes (4 adults, taking the car).

My question is: can we get to Anacortes from Port Townsend? On Google Maps, it looks that we can take the ferry from PT to Keystone/Coupeville and then drive all the way to Anacortes.

Can we really do this and how long will it take on a Friday (May 15).

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, follow the route you mentioned, but be sure to reserve a spot on that ferry.

The ride to Anacortes is quite lovely and you'll want to stop at the Deception Pass Bridge (select my name and you will see photos of some places you will be going).

BTW, getting off the ferry, turn left and left again into Fort Casey State Park. Great views, parade grounds, gun emplacements, lighthouse, etc.

Be at the Anacortes Terminal at least one hour before boarding; I always feel better at two hours, but that's me, especially since it's a Friday.

You won't have much traffic on Whidbey Island or en route to Anacortes; you will be far north of Seattle/Everett area traffic.

Your Google Maps should show the mileage and estimated time; Mapquest says:

Total Estimated Time: 48 minutes

Total Estimated Distance: 30.70 miles

Do allow extra time for stops as noted above.

Your route takes you into downtown Anacortes, then you follow the signs to the ferry terminal.

Here are two Inside Pages that might prove helpful, for both Whidbey and the San Juan Islands.

Whidbey Island (Great day or more getaway that is iconic of the Pacific NW, with key websites.)

San Juan Islands (Information on the several major islands, with key websites.)

Just to add to what voyaging wrote, you want to reserve the Port Townsend/Keystone ferry ASAP as that route is expected to be very busy with the Hood Canal bridge closure in May.

And I agree that you want to arrive at the ferry terminal in Anacortes about 90 minutes to 2 hours in advance of the ferry you want on a Friday. So I'd reserve a ferry time on the PT/Keystone route that's at least 4 hours prior to the departure time for the ferry you plan to catch to SJI.
