Valentine Day weekend Feb 16 - 19 - from Spokane

actually, it'd be from Pullman, where my wife studies Pharmacy school at WSU. I'm planning a suprise road trip for that weekend Feb 16-19, but I don't know where to go. Please advise?

I had some ideas, such as going to Glacier National Park, but I called the Glacier Information or something, and they said the park is closed ?

What are other places to go within 2-3 hours drive? Will I need a SUV for snow driving?

I would take her to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It would be about 2 hours from Pullman, go north to Spokane, then east on I-90 to Coeur d'Alene. The Coeur d'Alene Resort is beautiful and the town is cute and has lots of restaurants. It would be highway all the way so as long as there is not a blizzard you should be OK, but I always pack chains just in case. If you don't want to stay at the resort there are lots of other choices.

The resort is called Coeur d'Alene Resort and it is absolutely beautiful. It has marinas, a spa, indoor pool, gym, golf course, several restaurants. Their website is www.cdaresort.com. For activities things are more limited because it is winter but you can check out the city page at www.coeurdalene.org. I don't know what your price range is because this resort is a little pricey but there are special deals at some other hotels and b&b'sin the town, just click 'package deals' then 'romance' on the city's main page. Try and go back in the summer and there are dinner cruises on the lake, hikes in the mountains, kayaking, etc.

I agree with foxisle that a trip up to Coeur 'd Alene would be easy drive and a nice visit. You could use Coeur d' Alene as a base for day trips into Spokane, drive up to Sandpoint, Idaho 45 miles north of Coeur d' Alene which is another nice small town, or go down to the Coeur d' Alene Tribal Casino about 30 minutes south of Coeur d' Alene. You could return to Pullman via US95 through Idaho to Moscow, which has some nice scenery. The main activity in North Idaho during the winter is snow related sports such as skiing or snowmobiling.
