visiting fort lewis and wa for the first time.

can anyone give advice on what to do while there first week of june to visit son at ft.lewis.Staying in lakewood at best western inn.has anyone stayed there?Would like to visit coast.Best route there and best beach area?Also does anyone know how far to canada.And passport required.Thanks for any advise

Here are some ideas of what to see with Lakewood as a base:

Mount Rainier


On the way to Mt. Rainier, Northwest Trek (zoo + free roaming native animals + people in trams)


Tacoma: Museum of Glass


Tacoma: Point Defiance Park (park, zoo, gardens)


Federal Way: Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection


You can reach the ocean beaches via Olympia and Aberdeen/Hoquiam (highways 5, 8, 12, 109) in under 2 hours. There are 50 miles of sandy beach from Ocean Shores through the Quinault Indian reservation. The further north you go, the prettier the beach gets.
