Looking for a day trip while in Fond du Lac, Wi

Traveling to Fond Du Lac, Wi to visit family, however, I will have Saturday free and I am looking for suggestions for possible things to do in the surrounding area. Any suggestions for a day trip?

Fond du Lac is not much over an hour, maybe 1 1/2 hrs from Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay. So, if you are interested in anything in those cities you could easily do a day trip. If the Brewers are in town you could see a major league baseball game in Milwaukee.

If you are more interested in nature the Horicon Marsh wildlife refuge and the Kettle Moraine State Forest are both close to Fondy.

It all depends on what you enjoy. It's hard to make recommendations without knowing anything about your interests.

Wisconsin summers are filled with fairs, festivals and special events, so it all depends on when you are coming too.

The Ripon Good Cookie outlet in Ripon is fun (free samples throughout) and it's a very historic town.

The Larson's Clydesdales. It depends on how into them you are, it's $15/per person http://www.larsonsclydesdales.com/

You could check out Oshkosh:

there's the EAA Fly-In and museum:

You could head to Ripon to the cookie outlet and/or Larson's and keep going and check out nearby Green Lake (pretty area and downtown) and then head a bit further to Princeton which has their huge flea market every weekend and garage sales galore. Jillian's is a nice small hometown cafe with good food and friendly staff right on the main drag (just past the flea market on the right).

Depending on what "Saturday" you are talking about...This weekend (June 7 thru June 10) is Walleye Weekend at Lakeside Park. Its a beautifal park along Lake Winnebago. Food vendors, music tents, games, all around the Mercury Marine Walleye Fishing Tournament. There is a guy who comes every year with cool animals you usually only see in the zoo or wild. This is THE event in FdL every year.

Other options in the area- Little Farmer orchard is nice. It is on Hwy 151 going north of FdL along the east side of the lake a couple of miles. It has apple picking, gift shops, sort of a petting zoo, hay rides, and a nice bakery with great muffins and pies. Even has a new little cafe area in the main house.

Pebbles is a tiny place also just NE of FDL, just off Hwy 151 that has an old feedmill turned into shops and restaurants. Even has a free-trade gift shop that is nice. You could do both that and the Little Farmer same day.

Milwaukee has festivals almost every weekend during the summer as well. That could easily be a daytrip as about 1.5 hrs to get down to the lakefront there from FdL.

There are lots of outdoor activities as well. What about Horicon National Wildlife Refuge or the Northern Kettle Moraine Region. stateparks.com/northern_kettle_moraine_wisco…

Up toward Appleton is High Cliff State Park. In Appleton, there is the History Museum at the Castle which has info on Houdini, Edna Ferber and more. You might also want to swing by alma mater, Lawrence University, whose Wriston Art Center often has interesting exhibits.
