Lake Geneva in the Winter

Hi we'll be staying in Lake Geneva for a couple of days in early December.

Are all of the stores open during the off season?

Will there be any special Christmas activities?

Thanks

Carol

Most of the stores, resorts, etc. all stay open during the winter. Only those that offer seasonal activities like boating close. A few of the restaurants...two come to mind...Gordy's on Lake Geneva in Fontana and Hemingways, north of Lake Geneva on Hwy. H, close for a month or so, but I am not sure of either of the closing dates. For the most part, you will find everything open and if the lake has frozen over there will be ice fishermen on it.

There are usually Christmas activities in downtown and at Grand Geneva. Check Lake Geneva's website below for listings as it gets closer to the season.

Bugletti, Lake Geneva is wonderful in December (especially if there is snow on the ground). Yes, the majority of the shops are still open and downtown is very festive. If you like to ski the area is littered with ski hills, obviously nothing like CO, or out east.

Here are a few websites to take a look at.

Every year around Christmas time, I take a little road trip to Lake Geneva just to walk around the downtown area and visit the Grand Geneva (www.grandgeneva.com/). The lake activities shut down for the winter season, but there's plenty to do when the snow falls. The downtown area is straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Lots of little shops and places to eat and recently a very nice Starbucks opened with a fireplace you can sit by. The Grand Geneva does an amazing job decorating for the holidays. For starters, the mile or so long road to get back to the resort has lighted Xmas displays all along the road. Then you get to the resort and can tour around the public lobby area where they usually display the local ginger bread house contest entries and plenty of other holiday displays that are lots of fun to see. I highly recommend it especially for kids.

Have a great time!
