The Northern Lights Theatre is a very nice place to see a show. It is small with great sound.

If you are coming ONLY for the casino and show here are my suggestions.

The bus does run to the casino, it runs until about 11pm. Depending on where you are staying it will be a few transfers to get to the casino.

Taxi would be my choice to get to casino.

If you want to walk to the hotel from the bus station

Double tree on 6th and wisconsin. (looks like about $180 a night)

Ramada Inn 6th and Michigan around $180 a night

There is the Best Western 710 N Old World 3rd St.

it is the cheapest in downtown area at anywhere from $60 to $80 a night.(does not have very good reviews)

The ambassador Inn at 2301 Wisconsin Ave is like $100 to 115 a night, it has ok reviews.

The ambassador Hotel at 2308 Wisconsin is about 140 to 150 a night. Friends of mine recently stayed there and loved it.

There are many many a little further from downtown that are in the $60 to $80 range, but then you have to get there from the bus station by taxi.

Hope this gives you a start.

If you are sincere when you say "dump" motel, the Hotel Wisconsin is right downtown, under $50 a night, and reasonably clean.

I used to stay there when I was young and poor. It is dated and not immaculately clean, but the sheets were always white and the bathrooms worked fine, which at that time in my life was all I asked from a hotel.

The busses and cabs are on Wisconsin Avenue, which is one block away, as is the indoor Grand Avenue Mall, in case you want to do a little shopping while you are here.

Hope that you enjoy your visit!

The Hotel Wisconsin does not exist anymore. It was converted and renovated as an apartment complex. If you go on Priceline and enter four star hotel, you may be lucky and have the opporuntity to stay at the wonderful Iron Horse Hotel. It has been awarded for $89-$99 and is defitenly one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in tons of cities!

It is tops four-five minutes from Casino.

You might find a cheaper rate at the Ambassador Inn, which is an across the street annex to the Ambassador Hotel.

If you can get a cheap enough rate at the Best Western Inn Towne take it. It is not a dump. It's an old office building that was remodeled into a hotel. I know several people who came into Milwaukee on business and stayed there and found it perfectly acceptable, although a little ecclectic.

The casino offers a free shuttle to some area hotels. The casino web site is www.paysbig.com, for more info.

Just to clarify the Iron Horse Hotel mentioned in another post is five minutes by taxi, not walking.

As another option for a cheaper room you might look into some of the airport area hotels. They MAY offer shuttle rides to and from the casino, but make sure you clarify that before you book because round trip taxi from the airport area would be cost prohibitive.

Forgot to mention, I would definitely look into the Priceline option, but if you have never used Priceline make sure you know how the system works before you place a bid.

Check out Potowonami's web site for information on their shuttle service to area hotels. The Casino has a program with area hotels. It is called the "stay and play" Besides discounts and perks for those who want to try their luck it also offers a suttle bus from 9 downtown hotels. It runs from 5:00pm to midnight. For a schedule and list of participating downtown hotels, copy and paste these links.
