Where to go out?

I will be in Milwaukee June 25-28 for a conference and will have the 25 and 26 (nights) free to do what ever we want. We will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel Milwaukee City Center. I know me and another girl like to go out (music, dancing, have some drinks). The other two that are staying with us, depends on their mood. So, do you have any suggestions about where to go? Especially if it's just 2 of us and what are transportations options? We do not want to drive! Thanks!

Where your hotel is at - you will not need to drive. You will be able to walk or taxi everywhere you need to be, or take the free trolley.

You will be here right when Summerfest starts, so you might want to check that out - you will for sure be able to find music and dancing (atop picnic tables if you so choose!) at the Summerfest grounds.

You will be very close to Old World Third Street, and depending on your age and what type of bar you're looking for - will find dancing at Notte (above Tutto), Suite, Lucilee's Rocking Piano Lounge, Buckhead Saloon, Bootleggers, and Old German Beer Hall (depending on if they have a live band). Heading just across the river to Water Street is college bar central, where you will find plenty of places for music, dancing and drinks.

For a bit older crowd (thirty somethings), you will want to head to Milwaukee Street, Brady Street, or the Third Ward.

On Thursday night you can also find live music outdoors at Jazz in the Park.

Definitely checkout Summerfest, www.summerfest.com.

There are shuttle busses on Wisconsin Av that stop right in front of or near the Doubletree and take you directly to the Summerfest grounds.

Thank you for your replies. Sounds like there are alot of options. Hopefully I won't end up ditching my conference so I check them all out! But, if I get bored it's nice to know there are plenty of places to go and things to do!

Seriously, this is a no brainer. Go to the opening night of Summerfest via a shuttle from downtown.

My guess is that you are most likely going to want to go back again on night #2 because you had such a good time the night before.

If you cut out early either night, bars in both the Third Ward (near Summerfest grounds) and Water Street (downtown) will be quite lively with other people who had been attending the festival.

Y'all are too great! I'm really looking forward to this! I just hope the weather will be nice (by that I mean WARM!). I was told last year, it got quite chilly. Everyone was running out buying jackets and sweaters. To me, if it gets below 70 degrees, I get cold! And believe it or not, that happens frequently in GA, but not too much in June!

Lake Michigan water temperatures stay cool even in the summer so the typical weather phrase you hear in Milwaukee is "cooler near the lake".

However, I have too often carried around a jacket all day at Summerfest and never needed to weat it, so I don't even bother anymore.

I just noticed your screen name "gamblinsunlover". I'm not sure if that means you like to gamble on the sun or in casinos, but if you like casinos the Potawatomi casino just west of downtown Milwaukee might be of interest to you. They have shuttle busses to downtown hotels, tons of slots, blackjack, poker, craps and an OTB.

przyk, my name means I like to gamble and I love the sun, and if I can gamble and have the sun (with an ocean and beach preferably, but a pool or nice lake will do), then I am at my happiest! I read a little about the casino. From what I could understamd, I don't think you get free drinks while you gamble, and the way everyone remarked about it, winning didn't seem to happen alot. I like blackjack, and I'm not some high roller, but if I'm going to give some money (like not win), I sure would like a complimentary cocktail! LOL If not, I rather pay for it and experience some of the other cool places everyone has mentioned. Who knows when I'll get back to Milwaukee again, and I'll get to casino in the next few months!

I agree that ther are more things to do in Milwaukee than go to the casino. I only mentioned it after seeing "gamblin" in your name.

You are correct that they do not give free alcoholic drinks.

Alcohol is not free at Summerfest either, but it's a lot more fun, IMHO. You will find mainly beer and wine coolers, but a few locations sell "real" wine and there is always Jo Jo's Martini bar (at Summerfest). Jo Jo's usually has good dance bands too.
