Weekend In Milwaukee

Hey Guys, Im going to be coming to Milwaukee in April for a weekend, staying near the Bradley Center. Ive got a few things on the list by reading fourms, the Harley Museum and Lakefront Brewery, can you guys toss me some more things to do in that general area without venturing out too far. We are in our early 30's. Also some pubs and low key restaurants that you would recommend that wouldnt be too touristy, would like to mingle with the locals. Were blue collar style if you know what i mean. Thanks!!!!!

Check the Bradley Center calendar to see if anything is going on while you are in town. Marquette, (NCAA basketball) will be done, but the Bucks are probably still playing. The Admirals are a minor league hockey team. Games are fun and cheap, if they are still playing.

There's the Old German Beer Hall and Buck Bradleys on 3rd street. Major Goolsby's is on 4th and Kilbourn across from the Hyatt.

Water Street has lots of bars including the Water Street Brewery for good food and microbrews. Rudy's has good Mexican food, off Water on Highland right behind the Water Street Brewery.

If it's not too cold you could take a walk during the day on the lakefront.

Discovery World has an interesting exhibit on Les Paul, a local guy who made good by inventing the electric guitar.

There is an Indian casino just west of downtown. They have a free shuttle to and from downtown hotels.

Also check www.expressmilwaukee.com, which is the website of the Shepherd Express, Milwaukee's alternative weekly newspaper and pick up a free copy of the Shepherd when you get in town for listings music and other events.

Definitely pick up the Shepherd Express and Onion when you get here to find out what's going on around town. There might be some great shows at The Pabst Theater or Turner Hall that you'd be interested in. Milwaukee has a super fun night scene, so you'll find plenty to do. Can't recall when in April you said you're coming, but the Brewers might be in town. Even if they aren't the stadium is open year-round - you can do a tour. You could hit the casino if gambling is your thing, or just do the corner pub circuit.

I don't recommend Water Street for the bars, if you're looking for corner bars. It's the touristy strip you sound like you're hoping to avoid.

Check out this great website for all things Milwaukee: Onmilwaukee.com

They seem to do a really great job of reviewing restaurants, bars and also list upcoming events. Check it out.

I agree and if looking for more blue collar type places - I might stay off the water street bars - although interesting and can be fun, not the most blue collar scene.

Another Brewery I'd suggest checking out with a group of friends is Sprecher Brewery just north of downtown - they have a good tour and their selections and regional brews are some of the best in my opinion. Also their soda is excellent.

The Milwaukee Ale House is interesting as well.

Though somewhat touristy, if you or your group has never been there I wouldn't leave town without a visit to the Safehouse which is downtown. It is in easy walking distance to any hotel downtown or the Bradley Center. I won't tell you a ton about it as it would take away a good chunk of the fun/mystery but worth checking out as it a one of kind place (Oh, and be aware many things are not as they seem).

Major Goolsby's has also been a staple next to the Bradley Center for sometime and has always been a goodtime when I have been there. It has gotten quite crowded though on nights of events at the Bradley Center.

Hope you have fun in Milwaukee - I always do.

Awesome, thanks for all the tips and info, yeah def going to check out the safehouse, read a little bit about it, and the reviews say its fun for a out of town visit. I'll Prob stay off water st then, looking for more of that laid back, just hang out and bs with people scene instead of all the dancing hoopla stuff. Thanks again guys, looking forward to my visit!

One place that no one has mentioned is also one of the best, if not the best, sports bar downtown.

It's going to be about 8 blocks east of the BC on Ogden. Great atmosphere, incredible food, very clean and just a fun laid back place.
