I'm looking for a good German lunch spot? i read the reviews on the popular ones, and the reviews are poor - Can you recommend a good one in Milwaukee - or near Elkhart Lake.

My favorite is Kegels Inn on 59th and National. It's about 10 min. west of downtown, about a mile off the interstate. If it happens to be a Friday, they have an EXCELLENT fish fry.

I recently had a great experience at Mader's - and their lunch menu is quite diverse. You may want to consider them. Their menu is online. The street is also quaint and you can pop in the Spice House, Old German Beer Hall, etc. to shop as well. Also the Cheese store. This gives it an advantage over Karl Ratzch's, IMO.

I have given Karl's two tries. It's pricey, and both times the food seemed cafeteria quality to me. Just my honest opinion.

Have never had Kegel's.

Old German Beer Hall is worth it just for their incredible pretzels.

German Fest is going on right now - too bad you're not here!

Old German Beer Hall is great for beer and atmosphere. The food is decent bar food, but not restaurant quality.

Maders and Karl's are fine dining--defintely expensive, but, in my opinion, a good meal every time.

Unfortunately, John Ernst, the best German restaurant in Milwaukee, is no more.

Kegals is great. Good German food without the downtown prices.

If I were in Milwaukee for one day and wanted German food and beer I would hit up Maders and Old German Beer Hall as they are about thirty feet from one another.

Best of luck.
