Weather in Mid April

Heading to Milwaukee on April 19th. Was wondering what type of weather to expect that time of year. I know that on the East Coast we have usually thawed out by then and are enjoying spring weather. Any chance we won't be bundled up? Also, traveling with 2 11 yr old boys, any great ideas to do with them. Thanks!

There is a chance that the weather will be nice and a chance that you will see snow. April is very fickle around here. Most probably you will need sweaters and jackets.

There are many old posts with things to do in Milwaukee, depending on your preferences. The Brewers may be in town and we do have a retractable roof stadium. For other sporting events check the calendar at the Bradley Center. If they are still playing in April we have minor league hockey and indoor soccer that are very affordable along with the Bucks, NBA basketball. You could also go ice skating at the Pettit Center, which is an indoor training facility for Olympic speed skaters.

Museums include Discovery World, the Harley Davidson Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee Public museum.

NJChris, check out this address:

onmilwaukee.com/ent/articles/100things.html

It gives you 100 things to do in Milwaukee from the website Onmilwaukee.com

Otherwise, my kids love the new Discovery world by Lake Michigan, and the combo Milwaukee Public Museum/IMAX/Planetarium in downtown.

You and your wife might enjoy a free tour of Miller Brewery, you get free beer at the end of the tour. Otherwise, like przyk said, Miller Park where the Brewers play is an outstanding stadium, even if the Brewers are not playing in the days you are going to be here, you can try their restaurant inside which gives you a great look facing the field. The Horticultural Domes are also great for the whole family, probably more for your wife. A drive or walk by Lake Michigan thru Lake Shore Dr. is also nice. The Zoo is open year round, and eventhough it does not compare to some of the best in Chicago, New York, and San Diego, it is nice. Take a look at visitmilwaukee.com, they have nice videos and suggestions too. Have fun. Next time come in the summer, I think there is no better city in the 50 States that beats Milwaukee with all their Music (Summerfest) and Ethnic (Italian, German, Irish, Polish, Mexican, etc...) Festivals all summer long.

Sorry NJChris, I forgot to mentioned that the weather is just like przyk said. It is a hit and miss in the spring. The average in April is high 47 and low 33, but last year in April, we were in the high 60s to low 50s. We have had snow storms as late as May, but is very unusual, it is usually a freak snow storm that melts within a day or two because of the higher than freezing temperatures in April and May. I agree with przyk, all you need is a sweater and a light to medium jacket. We are in the same latitude as Boston, Massachusetts.
