Restaurants (dinner) near Residence Inn Downtown

We will be staying at Residence Inn.

I'm looking for restaurant recommendations for dinner, within walking distance of the hotel. We'd really like local type restaurants.

Thanks!

For Thai, we like The King & I and Thai Palace.

For Mexican, Rudy's isn't far, and The Water St Brewery is on the same block.

For kitsch, The Safe House is fun.

We often eat at China Gourmet before going to the theater.

Local type restaurants. Milwaukee does not have many chains, but when you say local - it doesn't always mean the theme is local.

For good downtown eats at a fair price, I would recommend Mo's Irish Pub just kitty corner from your hotel. In the Third Ward I like Milwaukee Ale House, St. Paul Fish Market, and the new Cafe Benelux. Coquette Cafe is also a true gem.

Bartolotta's just opened a Gastropub called The Rumpus Room on Water Street, not far from your hotel.

On Old World Third Street I like Tutto. Molly Cool's has a great Happy Hour.

Milwaukee Street gives you a whole slew of options, and they are all good. Cubanitas, Carnevor (if you want to go upscale), Saketumi, Umami Moto....

You might want to try Elsas for a great burger in a nice environment. I would consider that local since they also own Kopps.
