Best golf course for a Dad and 11 year old ?

We'll be staying in Sister Bay at the end of August and my husband and 11 year old would like to play golf one morning. Our 11 year old has been golfing for a couple years, but would do better with an easier course. Any recommendations?

Bay Ridge is a 9 hole course south of Sister Bay on 42 which should be good for you. It's the northernmost course on the peninsula. Stonehedge in Egg Harbor is another 9 hole course, but is further away. If you want an 18 hole course, you could try Maxwelton Braes south of Baileys Harbor on 57.

As RickMP said Stonehedge is a great course for casual golfers and thier bar which is run by John Henry has very good food. Bay Ridge is a very nice course that is a stones throw from Fred and Fuzzys so after they golf and you shop you can meet them for a nice meal.

Thanks for your fast responses! I know my husband was eyeballing the Peninsula State Park course. It looks rather hilly. Would you say that one is not a good choice for "casual golfers"?

Peninsula is not too long, narrow tree-lined fairways, no water and few bunkers. It's not particulary tough. It is very hilly and scenic, especially the back nine-the views of Eagle Harbor are breathtaking. It is the iconic golf course in Door County and gets a lot of play and a lot of good golfers. From the standpoint of course toughness, it would be ok to play. But, if you are concerned about being paired in a foursome with better golfers, and would be uncomfortable being followed by better golfers, you might not want to play it. It has a comprehensive web site that diagrams each hole in detail.

They could play Alpine, not very crowded especially later in the afternoon when they offer discount rates. Awesome scenery from many holes here. After golf you could eat at Carringtons at the Landmark, just a short drive away.

How well does the child play? If they've played at all and have even minimal ability both Alpine and Peninsula have some holes they could handle, along with more difficult ones. Some are really beautiful if they appreciate that kind of thing. If they're very new and frustrate easily stick to an easier course. Quite a bit further south the Alaska golf course is an executive type, if you're driving from the south.
