Would traveling to the Dells via train be a good option or is it necessary to have a car to get around once you're there? Where is the best place to stay for a family of 6 or 7 with older kids? The water parks aren't the primary focus of our trip, and we would like to stay altogether yet have some privacy w/the option to prepare our own food (and not spend a small fortune on lodging). Also does Wisc Dells have 4th of July fireworks and if so where is the best viewing? Thank you in advance for any help or information!

The Original Wisconsin Ducks or a jet boat trip (since you have older kids).

Noah's Ark if you do have a waterpark day.

It depends what you're doing and where you stay whether you need a car or not. There's lots on the one main strip but there's more to see in nearby Baraboo for example that I always suggest (Circus World and International Crane Foundation, maybe big cat rescue etc.). There's Devils Lake State Park which is quite popular and scenic. Day trips such as House on the Rock are possibilities too. How long do yo plan on staying? There's a lot of lodging but it's a busy time to come on the 4th so reserve soon. If waterparks aren't your focus stay away from the big waterpark resorts lodging that are expensive.

This one is on the water and maybe a good option if it has a kitchen: www.alohabeachresort.com/amenities.html it's not right on the strip so it may not work for you if you decide no car.

Thanks for that...I knew the 4th of July would be a bad week especially this late in the year as far as planning, but if it wouldn't be for the last minute we wouldn't get anything done at all! Idk how a compulsive micro-manager ended up with family who's motto is: "just let it develop"?! haha
