jackson hole or teton village

flying into jackson hole in early febuary

going to mainly snowmobile and sight see not ski, planning on getting hotel in teton village

is it better to stay in jackson hole?

is there usually difficulty getting to teton village from jackson airport in feburary - ie road closures along that route? Plan to get into yellowstone (snowmobile) or tetons but wondering how that doable that is in febuary.

also can anyone comment on dogsledding or other activities (not skiers)

first time to this area thanks

Jackson Hole is actually the whole area, including Grand Teton National Park, Moose, Moran, Wilson, the town of Jackson and Teton Village. If you have a car, getting from the village to Jackson for shopping, movies, dining is not a problem.

The route from the airport will take you through the town of Jackson, to Hwy 22, across the Snake then to HWY 390 to the village. It is not far. Plows and sanding trucks will be out there. The village is a world class resort, the roads will be accessable.

There are many companies that do snowmobile tours. Snowmobile access to Grand Teton and Yellowstone is limited, led by guide and limited # of trips. You can visit the Visitor Center at GTNP, and snowshoe with a ranger. There is a sleigh ride in the Elk Refuge, you get up close to the elk; it runs out of the visitor center on the north edge of town.

I think there is a dogsledding business near Jackson that will sled ppl to the hot springs, perhaps someone else can direct you.

Note: when you leave the plane, you won't be in a covered walkway, , you are on the tarmack. so watch out for ice!

i'd stay in jackson if you aren't going to ski. no use paying for those accomadations if you don't have to. choose one of the local hotels close to the square, such as the sundance inn. as for snowmobiling, i enjoy renting from these people because you can go on your own instead of having to play following the leader with a big group. you can rent snowmobiles & go at your own pace thru the togwotee national forest, visiting the togwotee lodge & even going all the way over to brooks lake lodge for lunch. lots of open areas for "playing".

easy to navigate your way around too.

I second the suggestion to stay in the town of Jackson, not Teton Village which is really only for skiers. The town has all the shops, restaurants, and lots of places to stay, plus many of the snowmobile tours are based out of there.

Teton Village has very little in shops and restaurants, so it would be boring for non-skiers and very out of the way from all the main Jackson activities.

Have fun!
