Which Rafting Company? Can old people do it :-)?

Trying to narrow down some activities for a family trip. It looks like there might be 20 of us or so with a pretty wide range of ages. It looks like if you come to Jackson, doing a white water trip is pretty popular. I am not worried about our kids, but is this an activity that people in there 50s and 60s can do too? There seem to be a few different companies, is there a company that someone would recommend for our group? We are looking at coming at the beginning of July.

Barring certain physical disabilities, sure, go for it (white water if you are OK with it, otherwise, float trip).

And, fella, since when are folks in their 50s and 60s "old people"? :)

Float trip on the Snake River would be perfect unless you are more the whitewater type. Barker Ewing does a great job on the Snake River in the GTNP. When we did our last trip there were people from 8 to 80 on the trip.

I've been on a lot of raft trips in Jackson Hole, used to be a newspaper photographer there. I can personally recommend Dave Hansen Raft Trips. As far as the older members who may not want the thrills is a whitewater trip, there are more relaxed scenic trips. To get an idea of what this is like you might want to view a slide show I created at http://jacksonholejournal.net/scenicfloat/ and this slide show gives an idea of what to expect with a whitewater trip: http://jacksonholejournal.net/hansen/

The whitewater trip is a great family trip for all ages, young and old. Would not worry about age, just more about health. If you are 85 and in really good health, you can do the trip no problem. If you are 52 and have had a couple back surgeries and still have problems, then I might do a scenic trip instead of the whitewater trip. Regardless, if you are with a group or a family, doing a whitewater trip is the best memory making experience you can do. Have done the whitewater trip many of times with family visiting and it is ALWAYS the activitiy that they talk about the most. We always use Dave Hansen Whitewater.

Thanks for all the help. We went ahead and booked a combination scenic and whitewater trip with Dave Hansen Whitewater. Dave was really helpful and assured us that the old folks will have a great time and be able to keep up with all the kids. A couple of the older people cannot do the whitewater trip because they just had their knees replaced, but they will be doing the scenic trip with us and then Dave Hansen will take them back to town before the whitewater which is really nice. Thanks again.
