Small towns or sites to explore from Jackson?

We (30s couple, no kids) are going to Jackson Hole this summer, but have time on either end of our trip to explore some smaller towns or sites (i.e. less touristy). Any suggestions? Flying in on 6/25.

We are able to spend a night away, so doesn't just have to be a day trip. A 1-2 hour drive from the airport would be ideal as we are eventually due in Jackson Hole.

Thank you!

I'd consider Dubois or Pinedale. You can find out information about both on the internet.

Dubois fits that bill. Less than 1.5 hours from the airport over Spectacular Togwotee Pass. Awesome history at the Museum and WONDERFUL sites throughout the Upper Wind River Valley. Severall decent hotels, nice B&B's, etc.

Don't miss Brooks Lake enroute and try to go North to Double Cabin, one of the most spectacularly gorgeous roads in all of the Rockies.

Also look at Lander with Independence Rock and Sinks Canyon State Park and the Gannett Grill has very good food.
