Yay, community pulling together put Hilo on the map to win a spot for a Benjamin Moore sponsored paint makeover of Main Street (Kamehameha Ave. for sure and maybe more). 20 communities out of 130 received over half a million online votes.
Our locally owned building supply company, HPM, and downtown organization leaders spearheaded a social media campaign to spread the word for Hilo. In Hawaiʻi, we beat out Haleiwa. Sorry, North Shore, Haleʻiwa is a very cool town.
I hope that the BM color consultants will take heed of the already beautiful color palette employed on the Cafe Pesto building and the former Kohnenʻs building. They will be working with Alice Moon, who organizes many downtown events, so I feel confident.
