do we need to rent this type of car for our trip to sight see the big island in? we are coming the beginning of December
Nope - not at all. What ever car fits you & your passengers & luggage works just fine. :)
Definitely no need for 4WD. If you're somewhere where you need 4WD you're probably somewhere you ought not to be.
It's not necessary.
Reserve your car now, but keep checking for price drops. (Don't pre-pay.)
Do you know about DHCR, Costco, and AutoSlash?
We just did the BI and had a 4 cylinder and it was fine but we stayed on the main highways and parks/sights beaches nothing crazy. it all depends on what you want to see and do and how much luggage you have.We spent very little on gas and only filled up 1 time and did and saw a ton. Now if you have a 4x4 you can do a little more and see a few more places.BTW get a Costco card , the gas there is really cheap and you will save alot + you can pick up your supplies if you are here for some timeEdited: 28 August 2017, 17:32
Not really George. These rental Jeeps are not allowed off the pavement, and are not tricked out to handle off road driving on this island. You can see exactly the same things with either one (assuming one is obeying the rental contract).
