Trip to the Volcano

For the road trip what should we not miss and where should we eat? We will probably need a place for breakfast lunch and dinner. We are driving from Mauna Lani and on the 19 to 11 route. We are planning on leaving early around 7 am and home hopefully around 7 pm, give or take a few hours.

We were told by the concierge at the Four Seasons not to take Saddle Road as it was under construction and not a good road to travel at night.

None of the cross-island roads are good to travel at night, but I'd take the Saddle at night before I took 19. The Saddle isn't undergoing any major construction at the moment on the part that people drive on (they're building an extension that will go to Waikoloa Beach, but it doesn't affect current traffic), it's a good road in good shape along almost all of it, with some nice hiking and views, but as a holdover from past policy some rental car agencies apparently still prohibit it.
