Breakfast and lunch "to go" options?
Save

Hi everyone! We are getting SO excited about our trip to Kauai in just 42 days:) We will be staying four days at HBR, then 3 at the Grand Hyatt. We are planning on doing a lot of exploring, hiking, beach lounging and shopping our first four days on the north shore...but I was wondering:

What should we do about breakfast and lunch? Our condo does not have a kitchen. Is there anywhere we could grab breakfast and maybe some sandwiches to take with us? Or do you recommend just exploring and then stopping for lunch at a local restaurant?

Thank you!

Does your condo have a fridge? A microwave? I have stayed in some basic condos with just that . . . so I would have yoghurt &/or fruit in the morning and then pack a lunch for the days adventures.

There are a few places, both in Princeville and in Hanalei - restaurants, food trucks, and grocery stores. The one in Princeville has a good deli too for those sandwiches if you don't want to make your own. :)

We like Lei Petite Bakery in Princeville for breakfast. Foodland has a great selection of sandwiches, but do have lunch at least once at Pat's Taqueria, a food truck by Hanalei pier.

Yep, like coalminer & 22 said, the deli & bakery in the Princeville Foodland is really good. They also carry some very good cheeses and Boar's Head meats (expensive, but good).

Inside the Chevron station, there is North Shore Grinds...good food, burgers made with local Princeville grass fed beef.

There is a Subway inside the Shell station in Kilauea, plus they have various hot or cold local items like kulolo (a baked sweet made from grated kalo, butter and sugar. Usually can get on Sat mornings.

For local style breakfast, try Village Snack & Bakery in Ching Young Village, Hanalei. Go when they first open (6:30am) to get their malasadas and Spam/Egg Musubi before the surfers grab them all. They do good to go lunch like Chili Pepper Chicken too. And they have the best brownies!

Wake Up Cafe is famous for their Over the Fall French Toast - cash only

Lots of sit-down restaurant options in Hanalei and a few in Princeville. A few food trucks too in Hanalei. Pat's at the pier and Hanalei Taro & Juice, plus I think a couple more.

If you are staying at a private rental at HBR in a "hotel room/lockoff" they have a microwave and coffee maker and many have even more (toaster/hotplace/blender etc). What I do when I stay in the hotel room side is buy Anahola granola (Foodland), a small container of milk, some deli items (again at Woodland), fresh fruit like apple bananas, yogurts and mac/nut rolls at the Kileaua Bakery or the cinnamon rolls at Wake Up Cafe and enjoy the views in the morning. The lobby has free coffee in the morning or the gift shop has coffee you can buy (I think they open at 10). They also have THE best scones from Ko Bakery. I got the lilikoi last time. Get some guava juice and there is your breakfast. There is an excellent deli in the Princeville Shopping Center next to the wine shop and close to the post office. I can get Subway anywhere....I like to get buy local and support small businesses. Also down by the small pool at HBR is a kitchen with a sink and stove/oven. If there is something big to heat you can do so down there.

I certainly do suggest stopping and eating while out during lunch. Sushi Girl in Haena is supposed to be very good and there are many restaurants in Hanalei. I have gotten chicken from Chicken In A Barrel and taken it to the beach. Pats is a great idea if you decide on spending the day at Hanalei. Anini often has a food truck at their parking lot too. For breakfast I enjoy Hanalei Bread Co. You can rent coolers at the pool stand at HBR too.

Wonderful! We are staying in 7308 so I think we have a microwave and mini fridge. We can definitely make that work and we will look forward to all these delicious sounding recommendations. I'm hungry now!

We always do granola, yogurt and fruit for breakfast and maybe bagels or muffins on quick days. When we stayed at HBR we enjoyed walking over (or down/up) to the St Regis, would grab a latte and their coffee shop then sit on the patio off the lobby to enjoy the views.

For lunch Sushi Girl is really good. We go on poke binges and will pick up from various places on the island and take it to the beach. Kilauea Fish Market, Fish Express down south, and Koloa Fish Market are our favorites.

Oh yes 7308 added a lovely kitchenette so you have a mini fridge microwave etc. You are also close to that small pool/bbq/kitchen area. I would also like to add that the gift shop now has Ko Bakery pies in single slices and their lilikoi cheesecake is as good as Right Slice...well almost!!!!

The Hyatt rooms have a fridge also and we buy yogurt, fruit, juice and muffins for breakfast in the room. You can get cold cuts for sandwiches on the beach too

Hanalei Gourmet has a take-out counter. Great place for lunch!
