Jeep Adventure Pkg at Courtyard Marriott

We booked the jeep adventure pkg at the Courtyard Marriott , which includes a free jeep rental, for our upcoming trip and recently got our jeep rental confirmation from Dollar. It says that we are responsible for all fees and taxes on the rental. Wondering if anyone knows what those fees and taxes might amount to.

First - you don't need a Jeep on Kauai - and it is not the best for keeping your luggage and belongings secure. Sure - Jeeps are nice and touristy - look good in the photos - but they are not the best choice for Kauai. There is nowhere on Kauai that you are allowed that requires FWD.

For fees and taxes - pull up any car rental website and pretend to put in a reservation. Ask for a Jeep or any vehicle close to the price you paid. At the end, the fees and taxes will pop up. Hold your breath and your VISA card!

Remember, too, that most rental agreements prohibit you from taking any vehicle (including Jeeps) off-road - theoretically even the parking lot at Ke'e should be avoided, though we were able to find a parking spot there in 07 precisely because we had a Jeep - it was over a deep puddle that all other cars avoided!

Like every activity on Kauai, don't get in over your experience level. You may see people driving on the sand at Polihale but that doesn't make it a good idea if you've never driven on sand before (and don't have the $$$ it will cost to hire a tow truck to pull you out when you get stuck).

You also need to ask Marriott what portion of the rental charges your package is paying for . It's more than likely just the basic daily charge and will exclude sales tax, the many airport and county taxes, GPS or other optional equipment, prepaid fuel charge (don't take this anyway). This is only what I can think of and there's probably more I haven't.

Depending on the rates, type of car and length of rental all of the fees can add up to more than the daily basic rate. Once you figure out what the basic rate and all the fees are you can better determine if this deal for a "free" car is such a deal in the first place.

Yeah. This is not going to be a "free" rental car and it is likely the package does not pay some of the other charges associated with a rental.
