One Night Accommodation prior to Rental

We require a one night accommodation for arrival on Dec 18 from both Australia and Toronto. Our family is meeting in Kauai and have a vacation rental for 15 days however were unable to secure it for our first night (due to flights etc). Our daughter arrives the morning of Dec 18 and we don't arrive until 11PM so would like to rent somewhere that will have easy access fro the airport as well as access for her to be able to do something during the day and be close to restaurants for that day etc. For our arrival we just want something that we can taxi to as we need to return to the airport next day to pick up our rental vehicle. Were hoping for something more 'aloha' feeling than large hotel chains...Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's a chain, but I would probably still pick the Lihue Marriott. Lovely hotel on a nice beach, close to airport. They have complimentary shuttle service so you can save the taxi fare from and back to the airport. There's a small strip mall within walking distance if your daughter wants something other than the hotel shops and restaurants (but she would probably love on-site Dukes)

Check the Garden Island Inn not fancy but close by and clean. Right across from Kalapaki Beach and several restaurants. Close to the airport so if your daughter is not picking up the rental car a cab would be cheap.

Definitely the Lihue Marriott...shuttle both ways....lovely property , and a definite Aloha welcome to the Islands. Your daughter would be very comfortable there.

An early check-in request would have to be made.....but as it is a fair size property...the chances are better.

Since you're arriving so late, and off to the rental next day, you really just need a comfortable bed for the night, The Kauai Inn would be an inexpensive option, and may be more of what you're looking for - a smaller family run hotel with a great history. Not on the water, but walking distance to Kalapaki Beach, shopping & restuarants, plenty for your daughter to see & do. We stayed there for a night about 4 years ago (a similar situation, waiting for family) and loved it.

One thing to consider is not many hotels offer shuttles from the airport. Only 2 do. The first is The Marriott and that is quite expensive. The other is Kauai Beach Hotel. That would be a lot less expensive, but there is nothing else around it.

If you go to Kauai Inn or Garden Island Inn, a taxi would need to be taken.

If you want that aloha feeling without spending a lot of money, my vote is Garden Island Inn.

Garden Island Inn is a lot closer to shops and restaurants at Anchor Cove and the Marriott as well as Kalapaki Beach. This would give your daughter very easy access to some activities while she waits for you to arrive.

madmongoosescotland,

I've never stayed at Garden Island Inn but I've driven by it numerous times. It's does look very cute and it gets good reviews on TA. It's also right across the street from a lot of restaurants, shops and the beach. tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60623-d101326-…
