Must do & dine.

Leaving for Poipu in 8 days. What are the MUST do in the island? Since it is the first week of November, is the weather suitable for a kayaking trip? Lastly, any suggestions on local eatery that is inexpensive please. Thank you!

Please type in MUST DO'S in the search box. You will pull up many threads on this subject. It is a frequently asked questions.

Some things to consider are a day trip to the North Shore, Waimea Canyon, visiting a garden like Allerton, beach day and snorkeling at Lawai Beach, Hanapepe Art Night on Fridays, a luau at Smith's etc. Kayaking is ongoing year long. I would consider the one to Secret Falls up the Wailua River.

Under top questions is a restaurant column. In Poipu there are a few less expensive places to eat, but more local eateries are in Kapaa or Lihue. Many people love Humura Saimin.

Don't forget to visit the local farmer's markets and on Wed there is a nice one in the new shopping center in Poipu. Try Right Slice pie. Happy hours are a good way to avoid high prices of restaurants in the tourist areas like Keoki's has a very good happy hour.

Have fun. I'll be over then too. See you on the highway!!!

Here is a link to a number of dining options in Poipu.....many with a link to their menus.

There are some "deals" here and there in Poipu, but for more economical dining overall, look away from the Resort area and to the Lihue neighborhood.

Hamura's is a great local spot on Kress St.

There are not a lot of cheap places to eat in Poipu-however there are some good values. Kalapaki Joe's is good for Happy Hour 3-6 pm every day. Just be sure to get there earlierrather than later. If it is after 4:30 you will wait. Also, unless you love football DO NOT go on a Sunday, Monday or Thursday during game time. Unbelievably loud and crowded-unless you like that sort of thing. Having said alll that the $4 mai tais and $3 fish tacos make it worth the trip. Another good value is Savage Shrimp in the Kukuiluka Shopping Village. Very casual place but the $10.95 fish and chips was fabulous.
