Did anyone find a place you could hear the waves at night ?

Hi...we'd like to find a studio/1 bedroom for rent for three nights where we can hear the ocean waves....it isn't as important to us to see the ocean but to hear it! does anyone have a place to recommend that's less than $275/night???

Thanks,

Diane

I'm pretty sure I have read reviews that you can hear the waves at the Resort Quest Mahana at Kaanapali and all rooms are oceanfront. Try VRBO.com for studio rooms, renting directly from owner & see what you'll be getting, seem to be less expensive than going the other companies for rental.

I apologize, I just now saw you may be looking for a place in Hana, Mahana is in north Kaanapali area.

There are a ton of oceanfront complexes that cost less than 275 a night. What part of the island do you want to stay on?

I thought I was posting on a Hana site, so didn't mention that I am looking for affordable accomodation to hear the waves in Hana. Sorry about that.

Dheasley! I stayed in Hana at the Hana Kai Maui many years ago back in 1998 I think. No TV, no phones, etc. Depends on the (wood unit) room you have, but I certainly heard the waves!! The beach there is rocks and gravel, but I walked down east, and had a great view of a sunrise "Hana style". :)

Please just ask some people where to stay in Hana...I can afford Hotel Hana Maui....except for the gift shop! Mahalo!

Almost any ocean front unit in Maalaea area. Honokai, Kanai A Nalu are the ones I like.

Just FYI - You were correctly posting in the Hana forum, but Hana is a subforum of Maui. So anyone reading the Maui forum also sees your message. Likewise, Maui is a subforum of Hawaii, etc.

Hi - We also stayed in the Hana Kai condos two weeks ago, and you could certainly hear the waves. I agree with the previous post in that the beach is all black rocks and black sand - go down and hear the waves as they wash over millions of pebbles - really cool sound.

The condos are ok - kind of 70's-80's style. We stayed in Hana one night so that we didn't have to do the drive out and back from Kaanapali (that's 6-8 hours of driving in one day). They do have kitchens so you can cook and save some money on food - if you need supplies go to the Hana Ranch market - amazing what they manage to have in one little space.

Hey psy....You're right on target exactly with your Hana Kai Maui & beach description? Years ago, I walked all the way (east) along the beach (gravel & rocks) and saw a wonderful sunrise out there! Awesome.

Would you mind estimating your per night cost at Hana Kai? Do they have a min of nights? You booked in advance? Just wondering.

Hey psy bradda! I bet you were hangin' in Hana Ranch Store talking "good story" with da locals. It's "da kine", no?

If you want east Maui lodging near the ocean, then you must choose either Hana Bay properties or a few near Hamoa Beach on the loop road just outside of Hana Town.

There are very few oceanfront properties, even at Hotel Hana Maui, the luxury hotel. But there are some good choices for ocean view and close enough to hear the waves.

And you can get them for under $150/night, if you know where. Problem with Hana is minimum night stay requirements, but if you plan to be on east Maui for at least 3 nights - then everything is open.

For something a bit unusual - Luana Spa Retreat in their 1/1 yurt In Hana Town, past 3 way stop at Hana Bay [turn where the lunch wagon is located]; overlooks Hana Bay for $130./night + tax.

Hamoa Beach area is more expensive in general, but you might try Hana Maui Travel Company and ask for either Hamoa Hale Kai or Koali Ranch Cottage.

For Hana Bay you have many more choices and a broad price range ... AVOID Aloha Cottages - not well maintaned, and no Aloha Spirit; quite a few posts about owner/caretaker yelling at guests.

Again Hana Maui Travel Co is a good source at 800-548-0478 OR

808-248-7742. They have online listings so you can get photos, etc.

A good value is Hale Popolana for $160/night, right on Popolana Beach, a black sand/pebble beach off Hana Bay -- 2-1 apple green cottage perched on rocky bluff overlooking Hana Bay with two full baths; living room; cable TV; phone; full kitchen; washer & dryer; outdoor charcoal BBQ. Small deck facing bay.

Some like the Hana Kai Maui Resort condos, a 2-story small complex [18 units]off Hana Bay with 1/1 studios to a deluxe 1/1, some with garden views, some with partial and others with full ocean views for $167-225/night + tax.

Avoid any properties upslope, mountain side, anything 2-6 miles before Hana Town, properties on or near airport road or properties on the other side of Hana near Venus pools - not near enough ocean for the wave sounds
