kihei luau

We're looking for a great, authentic luau to go to in Kihei. We don't want to feel rushed - we want an evening of entertainment. We are travelling with 4 teenagers. Are there any special discounts offered??

Thank you,

Gwen

The big hotels in Wailea (a little south of Kihei) have luaus. Haven't been to them, but we've seen them - Renaissance, Grand Wailea, etc.

You could phone their concierges.

Went to the Maui Sunset Luau at the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena last November. It was fun. We paid for premire seating (only $8 more) and were escorted around the long check-in line right to our table that was front and center of the stage. We were also the first to go throught the buffet line. The food was very good with a large variety of dishes and the dessert table was awesome. The entertainment was very good and the show includes a fire knife dance at the end. If there was one dissapointment it was the open bar. There were lots of mai-tais and a couple of other tropical drinks but they were a little weak for my taste. I was doing fine at the bar until they announced it was closing and it was only 7:30 pm! Liability reasons I guess.

All in all, we had a great time. My wife and I even danced on stage to the Hawaiian wedding song (it was our 25th wedding anniversay).

The Maui Prince was about 10 minutes south of our condo in North Kihei.

Off topic, but where did you stay?

Could you snorkel off the beach near the condo?

thanks, Carol

Thanks for the info. We're concerned with the open bar concept and taking our teens, but sounds like the bar closes early!!

angeedesigns: They serve softdrinks and soda water at the bar as well. That's what my wife drank all evening. Of the 300 or so at the luau, there were around 50 children under the age of 13.

cb222: We stayed at the Luana Kai on the beach side of South Kihei Rd and LOVED IT, however, the beach in front is NOT a snorkling beach. For that, it's a 5 min drive or 15-20 minute walk south on the beach to the Kamaole Beaches. We walked every day; it was GREAT!!

You can get a good view of the Luana Kai, and about every other resort on Maui, from this website: www.wizardpub.com. Click on Enter; Maui; Aerial photos. There is also a link to each resort's webiste if they have one. (Thanks to another poster for this tip)
