Hi Maxima, the island is called maui and lahaina is a town there it's beautiful place. We did the Mt Haleakala sunrise tour which was magical, very cold but well worth the early start. We got some fantastic pictures and it was the best thing we did while we were there. I'd book either through the cruise ship or before you leave, we had trouble getting a day we wanted and we were there in october. Luckily we spent five days there but it does get booked out through tour companies. Have fun

How much time do you have on island? Which cruise line are you using? There are many tours to take on Maui but you could also consider renting a car and exploring on your own.

Whoa... sounds like you could use a good Hawaii guide book with maps and lots more information about the places you are visiting. Hawaii For Dummies is often recommended here for a good orientation to the islands. The more you learn about Hawaii, the more you will love it. Wishing you a beautiful vacation.

Lahaina is a beautiufl, historic town in Maui with alot of charm. If you want to shop, go to Front Street. There are good places to eat on Front Street, also. You will not want to leave Lahaina without a shave ice from Ululani's! :)

Even if you don't want to take an excursion from the ship, look at what they are offering for ideas on your own.

How much time will you have? When will they let you disembark - and then when do you have to go back to the ship? What do you like to do?

Lahaina - the ship will not dock. It will anchor in the harbor and you will take a "tender" - small boat that doubles as a lifeboat - to Lahaina.

Get a good guidebook and look at the menu's on the left and right hand side of these TA pages. After you familiarize yourself with all that Maui has to offer we can be of more help. Don't just jump at something someone else tells you would be a good thing to do. This is very subjective and Maui has all kinds of things to do that would appeal to a broad spectrum of personalities.

Most people visiting the island of Maui head to the historic town of Lahaina.

The tender brings you into a small boat harbor in the center of town.

There is an oceanfront library, a historic inn, a historic courthouse and a one square block Banyan tree all at the harbor. You can get a free walking tour map of Lahaina at the Baldwin House which is a short block from the harbor.

If you want history and shopping you will be at it.

If you want to go to the beach there is a basic beach with surf lessons two blocks away at 505 Front Street.

A better beach would be Kaanapali Beach and Whalers Village Shopping Center. You could take a taxi there or the city bus.

If you rent a car the one that is closest to the harbor is Hertz on Papaluau Street. Lahaina.
