I need ideas for my mom who enjoys everything but has trouble walking on stairs or uneven ground. Any ideas? We will be arriving May 2014.

Does your mom use a scooter? my wife had some mobility issues and used a lightweight scooter approved for airlines, made a world of difference for her getting around the island. most hotels have ramps and elevators your mom can use even down to the pool area. and Kaanapali/Wailea walkways are nice and hardpacked for easy access.

Aloha,

Welcome to TripAdvisor.

Renting a wheelchair for the trip might make it easier for her. She wouldn't have to use it all the time, but it would be there if she tires and needs it.

Hula shows and musical entertainment are fun activities and simple to find. Many are easy to access.

Aloha,

Some beaches have beach/all-terrain wheelchairs.

My mom (at age 90) used a fold-up walker sometimes while she was there a couple of years ago. One place that was nice for her was Whaler''s Village -- some nice restaurants and easy to get around.

How about a helicopter tour of the island?

Renting a wheel chair would be in your favor. http://www.gammie.com/

Maui Ocean Center, , there are benches along the way to sit and enjoy the exhibits. Designed for wheelchairs accessibility.

Drive south past Wailea and Makena to La Perouse Bay, beautiful drive.

Also a drive to the winery, beautiful scenery, you will only be at 3000 ft elevation. The grounds of the winery are lovely with very little walking. Much you can see from the car.

I would not take her up to the summit of Haleakala 10,000 ft elevation in 1 1/2 hr time frame with would hard on her.
