what can you tell me about this area, to stay in? are the beaches nice? quieter area? safety problems?
What time of year? In winter you won't be able to swim at the beach. It's a nice area, but kind of far away from things other than the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Laie is one of the "Gems" of the Windward Coast of Oahu
The beaches are really nice to
And of course the Polynesian Cultural Center
Feb. can be a little windy and rainy though.
Groceries, gas and a few eateries are close by.
Safe , but dont leave anything in your car

At that time of year, are we best off looking at the south or west sides of each island? would like to be able to snorkel and boogieboard where we stay - although I'm sure we will want to check out the north shore beaches too. any specific city names for each island would be very helpful, as to what you think would fit our needs. thank you!
Are you talking about the winter months? If so, the south facing shores of most islands will be the best as far as ocean conditions are concerned.
