June 12-16 Busy?

Can we just stop in and look around for a place to stay at this time of year, or do we need reservations? We would love to be on the ocean close to town, but if parking is not an issue, we could drive to town. Need something nice with separate sleeping for boys, preferably a suite or connecting rooms. Any suggestions? Can we get something like that for around $250 a night?

There will be people around but you still will be a couple of weeks before the peak season begins. Reservations probably wouldn't be necessary, but given your stated needs, I suggest checking out Harborside Hotel & Marina; Bar Harbor Inn; and Balance Rock Inn. All can be reached via links on this page; all are near/on the water; all are in/near the center of the village; and all are larger places that are more likely to have suites/connecting rooms.

A little farther out, but within a short drive or a nice walk, are The Bayview and Bar Harbor Hotel-Bluenose Inn.

I can't speak to price on any of these.

The only "no vacancy" signs you'll see this time of year are at inns that aren't open yet. You shouldn't have any trouble finding something after you get there.

Thank you so much for the responses. I am a little concerned, as we have not travelled the East coast before. Maybe a drop by would result in a more competitive price? Also, we are driving from Boston, what is a good town to stop in about halfway to Bar Harbor to spend the night? Thanks anyone!

Freeport would probably be a good stop for a stop about halfway although the whole drive is under 6 hours so you could easily drive straight through. If you want to have the break in the middle Freeport would be a great place for it. There are many hotels to choose from and some great shopping at the outlets and LL Bean.

Drop-bys that time of the year aren't likely to result in much difference, especially given your apparent requirements. At that time, most places are probably already operating at "low season" rates.

It certainly is possible that you might negotiate a really good deal at one of the B&Bs in the village (few can provide suites so you would be renting two rooms). The time you spend dropping by and shopping around is time lost in terms of exploring and appreciating the island and the national park.

Decisions, decisions.

I disagree that you would be able to negotiate a good price with a drop-in at a

B&Bs. It is the week before some of them go to in-season rates and their attitude is that the room is already inexpensive enough withoug negotiating a price reduction.
