Planning trip to Nova Scotia

We are planning a trip from Wash D.C. area up to Nova Scotia by car.

We have friends in Camden,ME and plan to drive from there to NS. If there is a ferry to NS around the end of July, we would like to know how long a ride it is and how much? We have not been through this side of the country at all and would like to see as much as we can.

Our Budget is tight. Any suggestions. Thank you.

The only ferry that would serve your interests is the St. John NB - Digby NS ferry. See: www.nfl-bay.com

Sorry to say there is no longer a ferry from Maine to Nova Scotia. The ferry was discontinued in 2010. There is ongoing discussion about resurecting the run, but to date, no such luck. The Princess of Acadia plies the waters of the Bay of Fundy between Saint John New Brunswick (an hr from the Maine border) to Digby in the southwestern portion of Nova Scotia. The crossing lasts 3 hrs and prices depend on vehicle size, and number of passengers. It is fairly expensive, compared to driving. What you are saving is 8 hrs of driving, but only if you plan on visiting the area around Digby and that portion of our province. If you plan on visiting Halifax, and possibly Cape Breton, you would be better off driving through New Brunswick and into Nova Scotia.
