Well, the only two 5 star hotels that I know of are the Ritz Carlton and the Mandarin Oriental. They are both excellent. also good is the four Seasons and the St. Regis, among many others.

Actually, I think it depends on what you want in a hotel. A 5-star based on an organization's rating might not work for someone who wants something other than what that property offers.

Do you want a modern, sleek hotel with all the latest high-tech conveniences, or do you prefer a grand old traditional place?

What kind of traveling group are you with: family, group of friends, spouse?

What sort of environment do you want: downtown in the midst of all the urban excitement, on a hill with a cable car outside the door, a view of the City and the Bay, etc.?

I agree, "Best Hotel" could mean a lot of things. If you want to know the highest rated according to AAA and Mobile, they are the ones listed by Liz.
