Down Powell a block and a half is Sears Fine Foods. This is a very popular breakfast place. You will be apt to have to line up for a wait on a weekend. Across the street, in the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, Scala's Bistro starts serving at 8 am.

Just before that, at Powell and Sutter there is a Lori's Diner, a 50's themed place with booths and a jukebox nd waitresses dressed up with little caps and old movie magazine covers plastering the walls.

Perry's Downtown (185 Sutter St) is about a mile away

Great breakfasts (the eggs benedict is delicious)

WONDERFUL Bloody Marys

I actually prefer the Perry's on Union Street .. its a bit further away though.

Canteen is right by there and has an awesome brunch menu, though weekends only.

Sears Fine Foods is a great spot about a block away, and Dottie's True Blue Cafe is also great, but a little further (about 4 blocks maybe).

No, there is another "Dottie's" just half a block up from Sears, on the corner of Sutter and Powell. One block down from Bush.

Actually, there is only one Dottie's in SF on Jones St. near the corner of O'Farrell. Lori's Diner is located at the corner of Sutter and Powell.

Dottie's is worth the walk, the wait (get there before 9AM and you shouldn't have too long of a wait), and the occasional interactions you might have with the panhandlers in the area.

OOPS. sorry, I meant there is another LORI'S. Erase, Erase.

I am sure there is only ONE Dottie's from what people say. (I prefer a more quiet and less stressful start to my day than standing in line for food....<shrug>)

Wouldn't it be so much easier if we could edit our own posts? I've made mistakes in posts before and I usually don't catch it until after it's up on the board. The ability to edit the original post would make things so much easier!

I second the nod for self-editing.

I also second the nod for Dottie's True Blue Cafe. We LOVED our breakfast there. I never mind waiting for food if the food is worth it, even if it is breakfast. We had a memorable meal there...it was so tasty and filling we didn't need to eat lunch and we were traipsing all over the city by foot!

Have fun!

Sears is closer and decent, but Dottie's is worth the extra walking and the time you will likely wait for a table

Fantastic breakfasts, with lots of delicious choices
