Yosemite NP

I am visiting Yosemite NP in late May early June. Which airport is more convenient Oakland or San Fransisco?

Whatever it's worth, Sacramento's airport (and perhaps others, San Jose?) will be even closer.

The time saved is hardly a factor so just go with whichever gives you the lowest airfare (probably Sfo).

FYI Sacto, Oakland, and San Jose airports are almost exactly the same distance from YNP about 183 miles per Google maps.

Definitely go with the best airfare.

Fresno FAT is the closest, but that's usually the most expensive. 2 1/4 hrs to Yosemite Valley.

Sacramento SMF is an easy airport to get around and usually has no traffic delays on your drive to the Park. 3 1/2 hrs to the Valley.

Oakland OAK is a pretty easy airport and a bit further from city traffic but can experience commute traffic delays. 3 3/4 hrs

San Francisco SFO usually has the best prices and flight options. Commute traffic delays can extend the drive time. 4 hrs

San Jose SJC is another nice midsize airport but can also have commute traffic delays. 4 hrs

Reno should not be considered since Tioga Pass may not be open at that time.

I *really* hope that you aren't planning to visit over Memorial Day weekend. It's incredibly crowded in Yosemite for that holiday. Visiting then is do-able, just not as pleasant as it would be during the week.

I did purchase tickets, east coast to SJC-149.00. late May

We would like to stay somewhere outside of San Jose after long flight and at least 1/2 way to yosemite. We are renting a car. Any suggestions? We have reservations in Yosemite monday-thurs. Thank you

What day of the week and time of day are you arriving? Traffic is very heavy that direction during the afternoon commute 4-8pm. I drive it everyday, uggh.

Pleasanton / Livermore is 30-40 miles from SJC. Then Tracy, 55 miles. Then it's pretty rural for a long while. The small towns of Manteca and Oakdale are on route, there are probably some cheap motels there.

Yes, the timing of your flight is very important. If you arrive on a weekday afternoon, then you will spend a lot of your time in commute traffic, and might feel better just relaxing in an SJ hotel for the night.

If you arrive on a weekend or later in the evening, then there are 2 choices for you. From SJ, some folks like to head south on 101 to Gilroy and then head east on 152 to Merced and take 140 into the park. If you go that direction, you could get out to the central valley and stay in one of the motels in Santa Nella (just a freeway stop-off with a cluster of traveler's motels, a few minutes out of your way on I-5 N) or in the town of Los Banos (lots of motels along the 152 corridor)

Or, you could head out on 680 to 580 to get to 120, the northern entrance to the park. If you go that direction, there are a number of places along the way with motels right off the road. There are a cluster of them in Manteca at the intersection of Hwy 99 and 120, and some more in Oakdale. That would get you at least half way to the park.
