SFO trip

Hi...in San Francisco for 2 days. The only place I have to be is the Grat Mamerican Music Hall on the 2nd night. Beyond that I'm checking out the city and having some fun (hopefully). I have 2 great deals for hotel- the Fairmont San Francisco (Nob Hill) or the Grand Hyatt (Union Sq). Which should I pick?

Thanks so much,

JS

Yes, you do have two great hotels.

The Fairmont is a beautiful historic Grand Dame at the top of Nob Hill in the company of the Mark Hopkings, Huntington, and Stanford Court.....a heady location.

My advice, if the Fairmont gives you a nice room with a great view in the newer Tower, that would be good. I believe one direction includes the Golden Gate Bridge.

I would not gamble on a random room in the 'grand dame" original building, unless it is a very special room, Some rooms in these hotels, while of the same quality of the other rooms and are perfectly comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated, look out on the roof of the hotel, or horrors, on a light well (to be expected of older hotels.) In this case talk to them about the location.

The Grand Hyatt overlooks Union Square, was recently refurbished and caters to meetings. It is a fine hotel as a Hyatt goes and will most likely be fine for your visit. It's only advantage over the Fairmont is that is is closer to the main types of transportation, by 4 or 5 blocks and is not on a steep hill.

Good luck with your choice. Let us know

(Well, for a real San Francisco Experience, I would choose the Fairmont.)

Yes, San Francisco International Airport is 13 miles south of the city. its abbreviation is 'SFO',,,you know, like "LAX" for Los Angeles, 'SJC for San Jose, "HNL" for Honolulu, "ORD" for Chicago, ,etc. If you refer to the airport designation for San Francisco instead of the city you will get very different answers from what you expected. Locals will accept and understand "SF" as an abbreviation for the city if you don't want to type out "San Francisco".

Sigh...is it possible to put this statement in/near Top questions about SAN FRANCISCO:

It's SF NOT SFO - that's the airport code.

I wonder if the LAX citizens go through this as well.

Good Lord. Why must people always get so worked-up about something as trivial as referring to SF as SFO?

Yes let's save our energy for when someone says Frisco.

My choice would be the Grand Hyatt.
