2 days / 1 night in San Francisco

We are visiting Napa, then coming into San Francisco on an early Monday morning, spending the day sight seeing, staying overnight then spending most of Tuesday relaxing and sight seeing some more, then getting on a plane and coming home.

We will have our rental car with us.

A GROUPON came across with a fantastic offer at Ritz Carlton Club on Market Street for $319 per night, but the $62 overnight parking fee was a big turn off, especially after feeling a little 'stretched' paying over $300 for a room that we will only sleep in.

Would love some advice on hotels, that don't necessarily need to be CLOSE to the Ferry Building (but it would be nice), but have easy public transport options to/from the Ferry building and parking is FREE or does not cost an arm and a leg.

Since we do not see ourselves spending a great deal of time in the room, it can be 'Marriott' standards.

Thank you in advance for any advice or direction that you might provide.

SInce you are from LA you know that parking is a premium and there is no such thing as free parking. Why dont you drop off the car in SF instead of having a liability. You can search for parking deals in hotels like the Handlery or others. On the other hand without a car there are so many hotels in the Union Square area and a few along the Embarcadero . You can search by area and price to get the hotels you like

If you insist on a car then you may have to look at Lombard street motels like the Cow Hollow, Coventry, Del Sol, Buena Vista Inn, Columbus inn. These are not walking distance from the ferry Building but you can get to it by MUNI

There are Marriots in the Union Square to South of Market area from the Marquis to the JW so you can actually stay in at type of a hotel but parking will be 30 to 40 which again I think is not worth it

Belomiser,

Thank you for all of your great information.

Yes, indeed...crazy costs of parking...ESPECIALLY considering our rental car will cost less than $20....seems silly to pay twice or thrice for parking.

We were actually considering returning the car at the airport, and finding a hotel in Union Square and along Embarcadero that provide airport transportation. Now that you mention it, it is making even more sense.

Thank you again.

There are drop-off locations for rental cars in the Union Square area. If your rental company has one there it would save you a trip to the airport and then back to Union Square.

Hotels in San Francisco do not have airport shuttles, so when you leave you will either take BART, at $8.50 p/p....that is if you do not have too much luggage...or a private shuttle which will cost around $17, or a taxi... about $45.

Thank you again and again! I checked out some of the rates for the rental car agencies that have drop off locations in Union Square.

This gives us a great amount of information to maked an informed decision as to what will work best for us.

TripAdvisors ROCK!

Stay at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero, drop the car off right at the valet (Budget Car Rental). BART right across the street easy access back to the airport.
