San Fran nightlife

Hi all,

I'm putting together a bit of a travel itinery for my wife to be and myself. We'll be in San fran for 3-4 nights (from the 15th of May), and while or day/evenings are full i'm curious as to whats good for the nightlife? We're young(ish) lol and are interested in music (rock/indie/grunge etc) live preferably. Where would you recommend we hang out and any tips? Which clubs should we also consider?

Thanks for all input and help :)

Here is another local site which will have a list of bands playing as you get closer to your date

My favorite "big" venue for bands in San Francisco is the Fillmore. It's a historic place, well worth visiting no matter who's playing there. Go upstairs and look at the posters in the large room dating back to the 1960s. Also wait until the end of the show and get a free poster as you leave (via the front door).

I'd add to the excellent list posted by ObsidianSnow venues such as the RipTide (way out in the Avenues, as close to the edge of the world as you can get), and in the Mission District the Revolution Cafe, the Elbo Room, and the Make Out Room.

Belomiser's suggestion of checking the free SF Weekly newspaper (or its site) for concerts is valuable as well.

Have a great time!
