Walking distance: Embarcardero area to Fisherman's Wharf?

Hi. What is the approx. distance from the Embarcardero area hotels to Fisherman's Wharf? I am looking for an inexpensive hotel (<$150) for a one night stay at the end of our 9 night, CA central coast drive trip. I am considering the Columbus Motor Inn (1075 Columbus Ave, San Francisco, CA 94133) near Fisherman's Wharf, due to the good reviews and free parking. However, I have been reading in the forum that many of the local experts believe the Embarcardero area to be nicer. My husband and I are both quite physically fit and able to walk a 4 to 5 mile round trip. We will still have our rental car for this final night, but we would rather walk a bit and be able to do a mini walking tour, rather than struggle to find parking. Also, our flight leaves SFO at 10:30 a.m. the next a.m. What is the "typical" amount of time required to drive from Embarcardero/Fisherman's Wharf to SFO? I imagine that we would need to depart for the airport by no later than 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. to allow for traffic and return of the rental car? Thank you in advance for any advice you provide.

It's about a 25-minute walk from the Ferry Building to Fisherman's Wharf.

You can also catch the F-market Historic Streetcars or alternatively walk via Columbus Ave. http://goo.gl/maps/pDIw

Here's another map with driving directions from your hotel to the airport. http://goo.gl/maps/icnr I think your time assumption is pretty good without having to rush.

We walked from Hyatt Embarcadero to FW in about 30-40 mins i think, nice walk on the water side, very few signals. Gotta watch out for the skaters, boarders and bikers on the sidewalks though, cuz i think they consider weaving around pedestrians "sport" on that stretch!

You won't find any economy motels around the Embarcadero. The choices there are upscale hotels, e.g. the Hotel Vitale and the Harbor Court (a historic YMCA hotel renovated and upgraded into a ritzy modern hotel).

But if you're looking for something a little more "adult" than the touristy Fisherman's Wharf atmosphere, somewhat less busy than the Union Square area where we usually send visitors, with great walks along the Bay, the historic Ferry Building with its famous marketplace, and convenient access to all public transit, the Embarcadero would be a good choice. However, parking will cost you.

The Columbus Motor Inn is not a bad idea since you have a car and it has free underground parking. It is on a quiet part of Columbus Avenue within a short walk of Fisherman's Wharf where you can get transportation to the rest of the city, but also only a block or two from a cable car line.

We have stayed there and found it very pleasant.
