We hear about people who have rented from SF (city) and returned to SFO without a drop fee all the time (and vice-versa).

Now, that said, we have occasionally heard about a fee being charged, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Bottom Line: You can probably do what you're talking about, but be absolutely sure there is no drop fee and, if there is, check with another company.

Sorry, don't have time to go into insurance.

You need to contact individual rental companies. Enterprise is one company which normally does not do one-way rentals from off-airport locations, but others should. The question is, as oted, whether there's a drop-off fee (spelled out or just hidden in a higher base rate). Just worry about the total price. Best to read up on insurance, after checking to see if anything's covered by your home company or your credit card. Most of those may not cover liability. Whether you pay extra to get it is up to you. Do an Internet search on car rental insurance. Lots of opinions.

We rented from Hertz.

Picked up car at airport.

Dropped car at Hertz at Mason Street location.

No charge.

Verify that there is no charge when renting.

Please rent from the non US sites of the major companies such as Hertz, Budget, Avis, Enterprise, Alamo or the .com sites and make sure you state your country of residence and you will get no drop off fees (for non us residents) and you will have insurance included. You should not have to pick other options on top of what is being provided www.carhire3000.com is a popular broker site
