Muir Woods - public transit available from Sausalito?

We are in San Francisco right now. I have a 7 day Muni pass which I'm using to tour the city while my hubby attends a conference. After his work is done we are hoping to visit Muir woods and sausalito. Since I already have a muni pass, is there a way to use it to get to Muir woods or do we need to book the expensive tours.

Thanks for any info. Planning on going over this Thursday in the morning. Presently staying in Union Square.

MUNI is the SF based Bus, Streetcar and Cable Car transit system. It does not go to Muir Woods.

Have a look at Marin Transit and its weekend bus to Muir Woods. No bus on Thursday.

Muni operates within San Francisco only. You can take public transit to Muir Woods if you go this weekend, but separate fares are required. See the Route 66 link above for service to/from Muir Woods.

To get to Route 66, you need to take a Golden Gate Transit bus from SF to Marin City. Routes 10, 70, or 80 work. Once you are done, return to Marin City and take GGT Routes 10 or 22 to get to Sausalito. Once you are done in Sausalito, you can take the highly regarded ferry back to SF. See http://www.goldengate.org for information on Golden Gate Transit buses and Golden Gate Ferry.

Note: Route 66 service to Marin City has been cut back drastically this year. You can walk between Marin City and Pohono Street if necessary, although the route of travel is not very intuitive. (Use Google Maps for help!) Alternatively, you can take GGT Route 17 to get between Marin City and Pohono Street. You can use a free transfer from the first GGT bus to ride this one too, so no extra fare is required.
