Day Trip to Carmel and Monterrey

Has anyone done a day tour to Carmel and Monterrey from San Francisco and can recommend a particular tour company. I would like to have some shopping time in Carmel and Monterrey if possible so would appreciate any feedback.

I don't know how much time is allowed for shopping, but Extranomical tours advertises that it allows for that on Cannery Row in Monterey and in Carmel.

This is a SF tour company with a good reputation.

As I understand this tour, the duration is about 12 hours and you spend 1.5 hours off of the bus in Monterey and 1.5 hours off of the bus again in Carmel. So .....sounds like a LONG time sitting on a bus.

What do they sell in Monterey and Carmel that you can't get in SF? Otter pelts?

You can get otter pelts in San Francisco....but they are the inferior, imported ones. :)

I know everyone had different vacation preferences but it's the natural beauty of the Monterey Bay that's a real stand-out, not the shopping. Seems a shame to miss Pt Lobos -- a real jewel and accessible even to people who aren't "into" hiking.

I agree, but it seems that tours do not include Point Lobos, only the 17 mile drive.

One reason why the optimal visit to the Monterey/Carmel area from San Francisco happens when you drive yourself. You have control over your sightseeing and etc.

Perhaps I may be wrong?

We didn't find much in the way of shopping in Monteray.

Lots of touristy trinkets.

Carmel lots of art galleries.

Scenery is very nice.

Aquarium must see.
