SF to Oakland Airport..need advice

I will be staying in the Fisherman's Whatf area next week, and flying back on Monday around noon. How much time should I allow for traffic, etc? I assume this would warrant taking the Bay Bridge? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Take BART, way easier. If you have a rental car, turn it in and then take BART.

Err do you have a car ? Well you should at least be there 90 minutes or so at the checkin counter and our 880 traffic is always a puzzle as is the Bay Bridge but you are going against the rush hour traffic. I would leave around 9 and get to the airport in 45 minutes with luck or longer if you get stuck

Thanks for your reply. How long would it take on the BART?

BART will take about 20 minutes once you are on the train but you have to get to the Embarcadero station and catch BART and then take AirBART to the airport from o.CO station. M

So that will be about 45-60 mins Have you read the top questions. please do. All this info is there

If you're already having a car for your trip, I'd just take it since staying at FW you have to get to Bart before taking it. If you're staying at union square or embarcadero, Bart is very convenient but not quite as much from fisherman's wharf.

Having said all that, if you can dump the car entirely you don't really need it if only staying in San Francisco and going to/from OAK and it's likely to be cheaper on the budget with no car.

The top questions have some good info about why not to have a car in San Francisco and how to get to and from the airports (and info about getting around and muni passes). Perhaps think about getting rid of the car entirely, but it depends on your specific plans.

Please do not take large luggage on the F Line, if you take it to BART.

Will you have a car? Cars are more of a burden than a blessing in San Francisco. Also, Fisherman's Wharf is kind of out of the way and in a touristy area, so it will not be as central to things (like getting to OAK) as Union Square.

Assuming you don't have a rental car and you decide to take BART, your best for reaching a BART station is to take a taxi. The F streetcar line is usually too crowded to accommodate luggage, the cable car conductor probably won't even let you on, and the bus (specifically the 8X line) is hit-or-miss. Once you get on BART, ride to the Coliseum station and transfer there to the AirBART shuttle or AC Transit Route 73.

Considering there are 2 of you, I recommend pricing a shuttle to OAK to see if it is cost competitive with the taxi/BART option. You will be traveling outside of rush hour and in the opposite direction of most traffic, so the drive across the Bay Bridge won't take too long. If your domestic flight leaves at noon and you are checking bags, a 10:30 arrival at OAK is more than enough time. You can comfortably arrive at 11:00 without checking bags. OAK is smaller than SFO, so it is much faster to get into and out of.
