If you are driving....

There is no toll leaving San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge, but there is a toll coming back into the city. But there are no longer toll takers, so you need to pay ahead of time, or if you are in a rental car ask them how they deal with it. Those of us who travel it frequently have a "transponder" in our car which allows us to go through the toll gates. We put money in the transponder account and it is deducted each time we cross going into the city. I have no idea how you "pay ahead of time" if you are a visitor. Somebody will come along and clear up my confusion I am sure.

If you are walking...

No charge, enjoy the view.

Dear Poster -- This is a full text website We are not Whatsapp or twitter or SMS so if you are more specific with your question we can provide a more detailed answer ?

As you can see your question can be interpreted different ways and you will get a poster given you the history of tolls, why there are tolls, what the difference is and when the tolls will go up and if you are unlucky, what can be seen from a backyard as well

Let me go over the options

1) See -- If is free to see it from anywhere. You could pay 175 for a helicopter ride acc. to one recent post.

2) Walk - Free to walk on it and back and forth

3) Bike -- Free to bike both ways

4) Drive -- Free to drive North Bound out of San Francisco

5) Drive back into SF -- $6 fee either pre-paid if you are in a rental car or $6 plus a fee charged by your car company to collect the 6 bucks

Please don't give them any ideas. At this point, no, unless you are driving across from north to south (into SF, not out of SF).

If you're a pedestrian the sidewalk closes at dusk.
