What's Your favorite cup of coffee (shop), NON~ Starbucks?

Recently stayed in the Union Square area, where there were many, many Starbucks....Now I would like to know your opinions as to where the best cup of coffee and/or coffee shop is in SF?

At the Ferry Bldg marketplace, Blue Bottle Coffee. The lines are long.

Chain popular here in California is Peet's. I used to sell 1 bag at a time of high grade coffee beans to Mr. Peet out of the lower California Street coffee broker district.

I'm sure you'll get many more.

I wouldn't cross town for the "newest thing" in coffee. All neighborhoods have independents.

That said, everyone salivates over Blue Bottle and Philz. Both stronger than I can handle.

If you want to buy beans, then Graffeo's in North Beach.

There are many great neighborhood spots around town. I have always been partial to Java Beach Cafe, at the very end of the N-Judah line, but I rarely make it out there these days. I don't even remember what brand of coffee they serve at this point!

Blue Bottle and Philz are all the rage these days. Blue Bottle lives up to the hype, but the Ferry Building location is a madhouse. Luckily I live in the East Bay, so I can go to the original location at Jack London Square in Oakland. Philz is way overhyped IMO, and I've gotten a terrible cup of coffee every time I've been (my third visit was a couple weeks ago).

Bicycle Coffee Company has been showing up more and more these days, and I recommend giving it a try if you can find it. I usually have it at Arbor Cafe in Oakland, but I know it can be had in SF too. Take a look at its website and see what you can find.
