What neighborhood and hotel for family, with a pool?

Hello,

I will be staying in San Francisco for four days in July, we will be 2 adults and 2 tweens. I am looking for a nice hotel with a pool. What area should we look in for a hotel? We will be using public transit and going to all the usual sightseeing places - Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. Any suggestions re location and hotel would be much appreciated. Thank you! Price range would be $250 - $ 450 per night.

There are not many hotels with pools in SF. The downtown hotels with pools are all indoor (it's rarely swimming weather here). Those are the Nikko, Palace, Marriott Marquis (lap pool) and St. Regis. At Fisherman's Wharf the Sheraton, Holiday Inn and Radisson have outdoor pools. None of these are otherwise particularly nice hotels or the best options at the Wharf.

If you can live without the pool you'll have a lot more choice.

There is one more in Union Square with a pool....an outdoor one.....the Handlery. The pool is between the original building and the later one which has family suites.

Thanks for your reply. If we went without a pool, what ones would you recommend?

There are hundreds of hotels in San Francisco. The three major areas first time visitors stay are Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and Embarcadero.

There are large chains, small chains, independents, new/modern/high rise and small/boutique and quaint.

Your taste will impact your choice. There is a Top Question (right side on full version of TA) that describes the various areas. Read through that and see what you prefer.

Prices are immensely impacted when a large convention comes in so check the convention calendar to be sure your dates don't coincide with one. …sanfrancisco.travel/calendar_public/…

Hotel del Sol has a pool.

And is smack dab in the middle of the Marina, which is a great place for tourists of all ages. Plenty to see and do in the area, good location for public transportation.

At 450 a night you have a lot of choices. A suite at marines memorial may be a good deal

Check JWarriott. Monaco grand Hyatt as well

The pool at the Palace Hotel is nice. You can see some of the cityscape from the glass roof.
