Bus or drive to Chinatown

Hi: A friend and her car will be meeting my son and I for a couple fo days in SF. I was going to buy transit passes for all of us, but the unlimited 1 day pass is $15. Also where we're staying in Marina, there's only 2 hour parking and so if we go somewhere, she'll have to park the car in a garage nearby.

Is it crazy to go to Chinatown from Marina mid-day in the summer? If it's not crazy, is there a parking lot where we can easily park?

Thanks,

Kay

Not crazy. You can park at the Portsmouth Square underground lot. So is your friend coming out to the city both days to meet you? See my question in your other thread.

I would not make that drive in mid-summer for love nor money. And Portsmouth Square garage is not that large -- lines can be long to get in and it does fill up. Furthermore, unless you are quite familiar with the area getting through Chinatown and onto the proper street to enter that garage can be tricky.

You're staying in an apartment hopefully to feel like a local. Don't be dealing with Chinatown traffic. Take the 30-Stockton and enjoy the ride.

If for some reason you absolutely must drive (which I recommend against) use the Sutter-Stockton garage. It's larger and has much easier ingress/egress.
